IMPORTANT TIPS
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS
Send your child to school in clothes for learning. Wash and wear items are best. Please do not send your child dressed so that you must say, “Don’t get dirty.” Sunrise dress code states no sleeveless or muscle shirts, no shirts that expose belly button, no shirts that contain improper language, and no short shorts. Please follow the school’s dress code.
Print your child’s name on all clothing that might be taken off at school such as, sweaters, coats, mittens or gloves, scarves, hats, raincoats, etc. Use a permanent felt tip marker that won’t come off in the wash.
If your child is absent for any reason, they should bring a note from a parent on their return to school stating the reason for the absence.
See to it that your child attends school regularly. Students who have a large amount of absences will be given strong consideration for retention. Students who have excessive absences will also be referred to the Division of Family Services for further investigation. We will also have quarterly attendance incentives for children with perfect attendance.
If you are going to pick up your child early or you do not wish for your child to ride the bus home, a note must be sent with your child. If all possible, students should try to be at school daily and appointments/vacations should not be scheduled on Monday’s or Friday’s. Monday’s are introduction days. Friday’s are our testing days.
All parents who wish to pick up their child during the school day must first check their child out in the school office-a sign out sheet will be provided. Please do not come to your child’s class to get him/her. Once you have checked your child out, the office will call down to get them.
Parents who will be picking up their child after school on a regular basis are to send a note to school stating such. These parents are to wait for their child in their car in the school parking lot in the front of the old office or they may wait for their child by the school office, not by the classroom door. Please do not park in the bus-loading zone. Please be on time and not late when you are picking up your child.
If your child is to go home with another child or to get off the bus at a different stop, a note must be sent from home with your child.
If your child has a birthday during the school year, you may send a treat to celebrate with the class. Please let the teacher know in advance. Treats will be passed out in the afternoon. Please remember all snacks must be store bought. Please check with me to make sure we have no food allergies in our room!
YOUR CHILD SHOULD NOT BRING CANDY, GUM, TOYS, OR MAKE-UP TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THIS IS A SCHOOL POLICY AND THEY CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS IN THE CLASSROOM. (Some children play with the items instead of listening to the lesson and teacher, or they give it to another child, and it gets taken home by mistake or it gets broken.) Students are only allowed to bring in items on Show and Tell Day. If a student brings these items to school they will be taken and a parent must come pick them up.
Please notify your child’s teacher or school office of any changes in your address or phone number as soon as possible. In case of an emergency it is of great importance that you keep the school office supplied with current information.
If your child is allergic to any food products, you must provide a doctor’s slip.
If your child is allergic to insect bites, or has a specific medical condition, this information should be given to the classroom teacher, as well as the health room nurse.
If school is cancelled for any reason you should receive a phone call from our all-call system. You may also tune into local T.V. for school cancellations and closures.
In first grade we do have afternoon snack time. Students are allowed to bring in a snack and water bottle to enjoy in the afternoon. We ask that these snacks do not include forks or spoons. Often we eat our snacks while listening to a story or working on a project. Easy snacks are suggested. Snacks are NOT provided in first grade.
